Kitchener-Waterloo A Vibrant And Diverse Area

The Waterloo Region in southwestern Ontario is one of the fastest growing and most economically stable areas in Canada. The City of Waterloo situated adjacent to Kitchener has a population of just under 100,000. Waterloo also has more than 20,000 non-resident post-secondary students attending classes at its two universities. The two cities are located side-by-side and collectively are usually referred to as Kitchener-Waterloo or K-W.

The city of Cambridge is located in the southern part of Waterloo Region with a population of just over 120,000. Cambridge came into existence in 1973 by the merging of the cities of Galt, Preston, Hespeler and Blair. Many local people felt the merger was a "shotgun marriage" forced on them by the Province of Ontario.

In the first decade of the new millenium Waterloo Region is among the most vibrant and fastest growing regions of Canada because it has some of the best farm land in Canada, two well respected Universities, a very stable financial industry, diversified industrial production and a burgeoning high tech sector anchored in enterprises like Research in Motion and numerous spinoff businesses from the region's two univeristies.

Families thinking about settling in the Region will find many varied employment opportunities, an exciting and varied cultural life, and schools that are second to none. K-W real estate is also quite a bit cheaper than similar homes in other nearby cities such as Toronto or Ottawa.

Indeed, people living in Waterloo Region have the best of both worlds. They have the more friendly and pleasant atmosphere found in a smaller urban area along with the considerable amenities of major urban centres such as Toronto, Mississauga, London and Detroit.
